He is eulogized by California governor Pete Wilson, Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and his ex-wife and former singing partner Cher, who calls him her "most unforgettable character." 2005 (This week – Jan. 6) - Los Lonely Boys drummer Ringo Garza and wife Lenora are arrested in their San Angelo, Texas home on misdemeanor marijuana possession charges. Heaven

1975 - Three Led Zeppelin concerts at Madison Square Garden are sold out in a record four hours. They disbanded in 1980 but reunited for a sold out show in 2007. Their debut album was released on Jan. 17, 1969. Whole Lotta Love

1995 (This week – Jan. 8) - Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam hosts a national late-night radio broadcast titled "Self Pollution Radio" from Seattle. On Jan. 13 of 2008, he wins a Golden Globe for Best Original Song “Guaranteed” from "Into the Wild." Last Kiss

1985 - Ted Nugent appears on TV's "Miami Vice." Cat Scratch Fever (his biggest hit)

2005 - Someone steals the red dress No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani wore on the band's "Tragic Kingdom" album cover from a display at the Fullerton Museum Center. The dress was part of an exhibit on the history of rock in the group's stomping grounds of Orange County, California. Spiderwebs

2002 - Adam Ant (Stuart Goddard) is arrested at the Prince of Wales club in London. He is charged with possession of a firearm and with criminal damage and assault. He also allegedly attacks a man in his 40’s. Two days later, he is taken to the Royal Free Hospital by police for mental evaluation. Goody Two Shoes

1994 (This week – Jan. 16) - The Diana Ross TV movie "Out of Darkness" airs on CBS-TV. On Jan. 24, 1982, she sings the U.S. national anthem at Super Bowl XVI (16). Upside Down (#1 for 4 weeks)

1973 - Pink Floyd begins recording "Dark Side of the Moon." The band is officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on January 17, 1996. (anything but “Money”)

January 19

1999 - R.E.M. officially complete the transformation from alternative rockers to commercial pop band when they tape a segment for "Sesame Street" and re-work "Shiny Happy People" into "Furry Happy Monsters." Only two days later, singer Michael Stipe is back in "political radical" mode as he speaks out on President Bill Clinton's impeachment proceedings in Washington DC.

2004 - Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck announce that they've broken up. Ironically, her future spouse, Marc Anthony, discovers that his wife, former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, has filed for divorce in Miami.
